Allocation & Review Process

The Allocation and Review Committee is comprised of over 100 volunteers representing a cross section of our community and the parishes of Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jeff Davis. The Committee assists in deciding the most effective way to distribute United Way campaign funds to the family of agencies. It is this committee's responsibility to ensure that each donor's campaign contributions are invested in closely-monitored local programs. The funds raised in that area are invested back into those agencies located in that same area.

The volunteers from the committee are divided into groups, which are referred to as Panels. Each Panel has a Chair, Co-Chair and a United Way staff member. The Panels visit their assigned agencies and evaluates the financial recordings, program effectiveness and need from the community and surrounding parishes.

The Panel prepares reports on each agency and submits their recommendations to the United Way. This information is used to make funding recommendations based on community need, community impact and available funds.

Duties Include:

Attend orientation meeting to get acquainted with other volunteers and staff members, receive manual containing agency and budget information.

Read the material in the manual to learn about the agency, its clients, its mission and programs.

Agency visits last 1-2 hours per agency over a 1-3 day period, depending on scheduling. Visits are performed to understand their governing boards, which establishes policy and procedure, and staff who work directly with budgets and programs.

Attend the meeting held in May where Panel Chair's report to the full A&R Committee their findings and recommendations for each agency. A recommendation for the United Way Board of Director's regarding funding is the result of this meeting.

Keep materials, findings, and matters discussed confidential.

Time Requirements- Approximately 16-20 hours from March to June including training, travel, Panel meetings and agency visits.

Conflict of Interest-Persons associated with an agency receiving or seeking United Way funding should disclose this to staff and the Panel Chair. United Way will place volunteers on a Panel not dealing with an agency with which they are associated.
