No Experience Necessary to Volunteer with United Way of Southwest Louisiana
LAKE CHARLES, LA, January 3 – United Way of Southwest Louisiana is seeking community volunteers to help low-income individuals and working families file taxes. Volunteers receive IRS certification upon completion of the free training.
Each year, the program has grown to help more members of the community. In 2017, volunteers prepared tax returns for more than 2,500 clients. The VITA program brought more than $3.6 million in refunds back to Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jefferson Davis parishes.
“Volunteering for the VITA program gives you resume credit, networking opportunities and IRS Certification,” explains Denise Durel, President and CEO. “United Way believes in volunteering as a way to feel more connected to your community.”
Training sessions begin soon for the 2018-19 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in Southwest Louisiana.
The training sessions include information on Link and Learn and training on TaxSlayer. An IRS certified instructor provides training and all materials are provided.
