Lake Charles LA - United Way will be accepting letters of intent from local non-profits who are interested in applying for funding from United Way of Southwest Louisiana. Through a new online process, eligible local non-profits will be able to begin the application for funding by completing an online Letter of Intent (LOI) process.

Local non-profit agencies are invited to submit a request for funding for the next funding cycle, which will be from July 1, 2015- June 30, 2016. The months-long process begins with the submittal of the LOI, with a deadline of 4:00PM December 1, 2014. Once the agency meets the requirements for the LOI process, the full Request for Proposal (RFP) application process begins. "The RFP process will also be a new online process this year. It will streamline the funding cycle for our volunteers who come together to make the funding decisions,” says Michelle McInnis, Senior Director of Collective Impact.

"The Community Investment process (formally known as the Allocation and Review process) brings together approximately 100 local volunteers who examine each agency applying for funding. They review in detail the financial situation, the staff, the stability and the impact each agency presents in the RFP process. The volunteers visit each agency and ask questions about the programs, goals and the outcomes of the specific programs that are seeking funding. The Community Investment volunteers make a funding recommendation to the local United Way Board of Directors for a final decision. The entire process begins with the LOI in December 2014 and finishes up with notices to agencies on award amounts in June of 2015,” says McInnis.

All interested non-profits must now use the new online system found by visiting www.unitedwayswla/applyforfunding (mailed/faxed/emailed copies will not be accepted). Applying organizations must possess a 501(C)(3) IRS status and meet other requirements listed on the website.

The online LOI process must be completed by 4 p.m. on December 1, 2014. If you would like more information about obtaining funding from United Way of Southwest Louisiana or to volunteer for the Community Investment process, please contact Michelle McInnis at 337-433-1088, mmcinnis@unitedwayswla.org
