United Way of Southwest Louisiana has been chosen by the national Emergency Food & Shelter FEMA Board as the fiscal agent to disperse $88,035 to local emergency food and/or shelter programs. This money is appropriated by Congress and assigned to jurisdictions designated as high-need areas based on unemployment statistics. A local board reviews applications and directs funds.
Nonprofit organizations may apply by submitting an application to United Way of SWLA by 4:00 pm on June 1. Criteria for funding requires the organization to be nonprofit governed by an unpaid board, have a qualified accounting system with annual audits, practice non- discrimination, and demonstrate they are capable of administering these programs.
