United Way of SWLA Kicks Off 2014 Campaign Season

LAKE CHARLES, La. – United Way of Southwest Louisiana kicked off its 75th Anniversary along with another season of campaigning at a community event on Wednesday August 20,2014 at the Lake Charles Civic Center. The event was a celebration of a new year of giving back to the community.

The 2014 United Way Campaign theme is "What’s your dream for Southwest Louisiana?”, and the fundraising goal is $4 million. United Way of Southwest Louisiana helps the community by raising and distributing funds to local agencies that focus on health, education, financial stability or crisis intervention. Through its agencies, United Way of Southwest Louisiana is able to help over 100,000 people in the region.

The emcee for the event, John Bridges, announced that United Way had already reached 17.1% of its goal thanks to its Pacesetters, companies that have completed their United Way campaigns with their employees prior to Kick-Off.

Campaign Chair Paul Hutchens from Isle of Capri Casino Hotel, addressed the crowd stating, "It is truly my honor and privilege to be here today as this year’s campaign chair,” said Hutchens. "United Way’s dreams are absolutely aligned with my dreams for the future of Southwest Louisiana and I appreciate the opportunity to help.”

United Way of Southwest Louisiana also thanked its Corporate Cornerstones, companies who designate their corporate gifts to help underwrite the campaign, dues and administrative costs of United Way of Southwest Louisiana.
