Team United Calls On Volunteers At Kickoff Breakfast
LAKE CHARLES, LA, October 26 – United Way of Southwest Louisiana gathered supporters and volunteers at a campaign breakfast to introduce Stephen Dwight as the 2021 Campaign Chairman. The breakfast, postponed because of COVID-19, is an annual event that celebrates those vital to the nonprofit and its success.
The Barbe High School Marching Band played the National Anthem alongside the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department Flag Corps. McNeese Baseball Coach Justin Hill led the Pledge of Allegiance while Sister Miriam MacLean from Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana led the breakfast in prayer.
"We were incredibly thankful to be together today because last year's breakfast, scheduled for the same day as Hurricane Laura, obviously never happened," explained Denise Durel, president and CEO for United Way of Southwest Louisiana. "Although we were able to serve more than 766,000 individuals here at home last year, we missed gathering with those who make it possible for us to do that work. This is our pep rally!"
The theme of "Team United" was used by organizations when participating in the t-shirt contest. This year, CITGO Petroleum won the competition with LyondellBasell coming in close.
The campaign video showcases all of the work done in 2020 despite a pandemic and two hurricanes. It can be viewed on the United Way of Southwest Louisiana Youtube or website.
