children with teacherEarlier this week, United Way Southwest Louisiana successfully delivered educational supplies to teachers and students in all Allen Parish elementary schools through the WriteStart Project. This effort was made possible by a grant from RoyOMartin. More than 2,800 elementary school students and their teachers benefited from this Initiative.

Denise Durel, the President and CEO of the United Way Southwest Louisiana, expressed her joy at participating in the supply delivery Initiative. She stated, "Delivering supplies is one of my favorite parts of the WriteStart Initiative. We get to see the students and faculty, plus experience the culture of each school. I am always thrilled with the creativity and personal touches that make each school unique."

The Allen Parish school system has a student population that is 71% disadvantaged. Therefore, the WriteStart Initiative ensures teachers have the necessary resources to support their students without worrying about supplies or fees. Recent studies have shown that over 90% of teachers spend their own money on classroom supplies, with 62% spending over $100.
