United Way Southwest Louisiana is inviting teens across the region to take part in its Summer of Service, a volunteer initiative designed specifically for teens age 13 to 18 to give back, build connections, and make a meaningful impact in their community.
This summer-long series of hands-on projects will connect teen volunteers with local senior centers and nonprofit partners through engaging and impactful service opportunities.
The Summer of Service schedule includes:
- June 10 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Moss Bluff Senior Center – Volunteers will power wash tables and chairs to refresh outdoor spaces. - June 17 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Catholic Charities – Participants will assist in packing food boxes for families in need. - June 24 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Sulphur Senior Center – A “Tech Day” where teens will help seniors navigate technology. - July 8 | 10:00 AM
United Way Literacy Kits – Volunteers will assemble literacy kits to support youth education. - July 16 | 10:30 AM
Lake Charles Senior Center – A fun and engaging Bean Bag Baseball game featuring seniors vs. youth. - July 23 | 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Abraham’s Tent – Volunteers will help prepare plates for meal service.
“Summer of Service gives our teens the opportunity to step up, get involved, and see firsthand the impact they can have,” said Denise Durel. “From supporting seniors to helping families access food and educational resources, these projects build leadership, compassion, and a stronger community.”
