United Way Southwest Louisiana Collecting Donations to Support North Louisiana Families Impacted by Winter Storm Fern
Lake Charles, LA— United Way Southwest Louisiana is collecting donations to support families in North Louisiana impacted by Winter Storm Fern, which caused widespread power outages, hazardous travel conditions, and significant economic disruption across the region.
Donations are being collected through UNITEDGULF, United Way’s regional text-to-give disaster fund. All funds raised will be directed to the United Ways in North Louisiana, where they will be used to assist more than 9,000 families facing immediate recovery needs.
Funds will help families replace spoiled food due to extended power outages, cover essential utility costs, and access fuel and transportation so residents can continue getting to work as recovery efforts continue.
“Winter storms often create hidden hardships for families who are already stretched thin,” said Denise Durel, President & CEO of United Way Southwest Louisiana. “By partnering with United Way of Northeast and Northwest Louisiana, we can ensure donated funds are used quickly and locally to meet the most urgent needs.”
United Way Southwest Louisiana’s participation reflects its commitment to supporting disaster recovery across the state and the broader Gulf States region, including responses to winter weather events that can be just as disruptive as more widely recognized disasters.
