Lake Charles, LALake Charles, LA – September 8 – Compudopt, a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the digital divide, has teamed up with United Way Southwest Louisiana to distribute 150 laptops to families in Calcasieu Parish in need of essential technology for educational and professional advancement. This generous giveaway is made possible through funding from TC Energy.

In today’s digital world, having access to a working computer is crucial for success in education and the workforce. The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of technology, highlighting the challenges faced by families who lack adequate resources. This partnership aims to tackle this issue head-on by providing qualifying families with the tools they need.

To qualify for the computer giveaway, families must not currently own a working computer at home, and devices will be limited to one per household. School or work-owned computers do not count as owning a computer. Each laptop will come with two years of free technical support to ensure users can effectively utilize their new technology.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from TC Energy and the collaboration with United Way Southwest Louisiana,” said Amber Alton, Program Manager of Compudopt. “This initiative will empower families in the Calcasieu community, enabling them to thrive in an increasingly digital world.”

Families interested in receiving a free laptop can register online by scanning the QR code provided in promotional materials or visiting https://form.fillout.com/t/wSd2UTHEvfus. Remember to choose "United Way Southwest Louisiana" in the form as partnership. Distribution details, including time, date, and location, will be provided to selected recipients.

“United Way Southwest Louisiana is committed to supporting families and ensuring everyone has access to the resources they need,” said Denise Durel, President & CEO of United Way Southwest Louisiana. “This partnership with Compudopt and TC Energy is a significant step towards closing the digital divide in our community and preparing families for the future.”

With the demand for technological resources continuing to grow, this Initiative represents a vital investment in the future of Calcasieu Parish families.
