More Than 200 Calcasieu Parish Families Receive Free Laptops Thanks to TC Energy Partnership

More than 200 Calcasieu Parish families took home a new reason to smile this week — a free laptop that will help them connect, learn, and build a stronger future.

Through a powerful partnership between United Way Southwest Louisiana, Compudopt, and TC Energy, families gathered at United Way’s downtown Lake Charles office on Tuesday afternoon to receive their computers and a renewed sense of possibility.

The event was part of an ongoing effort to bridge the digital divide by ensuring every household has access to the tools needed for education, employment, and communication in today’s technology-driven world.

“Something as simple as a laptop can change everything for a family,” said Denise Durel, President & CEO of United Way Southwest Louisiana. “It’s a doorway to opportunity—whether that means helping a child complete homework, allowing a parent to apply for a new job, or connecting loved ones across miles. We’re so thankful to TC Energy and Compudopt for helping make that possible.”

Each recipient received a refurbished computer along with two years of free technical support, ensuring families can fully utilize their new technology. For many, it was the first time a computer had ever been in their home.

As volunteers helped carry laptops to cars and children excitedly opened their boxes, the sense of community was unmistakable. What began as a giveaway became a celebration of connection — proof that when local organizations and corporate partners work together, progress happens one family at a time.

Thank you, TC Energy, for helping bridge the digital divide in Southwest Louisiana and investing in our community’s future.
